Frank Newport joined the board in 2007. He is a Senior Scientist at Gallup, Inc., and served as Gallup Editor in Chief from 1990-2018. Frank and his family have a longstanding interest in the outdoors and have committed to climbing as many of the highest points in each state in the union as possible. He has “summited” 29 state high points, including New Jersey’s highest point at High Point State Park. In addition to many volunteer activities with national public opinion and survey research organizations, Frank served as President of the Pennington Borough Library Board and on the Stewardship Committee of Pennington Presbyterian Church. Frank and his wife Kim reside in Hopewell Township.

Frank’s professional career has focused on measuring and understanding American public opinion on a wide variety of important issues of the day. Frank was 2010-2011 president of the American Association for Public Opinion Research, the nation’s largest and oldest professional association for survey researchers and pollsters. Frank is co-author of Words That Matter: How the News and Social Media Shaped the 2016 Presidential Campaign (2020), co-author of Winning the White House 2008: The Gallup Poll, Public Opinion and the Presidency (Facts on File, 2009), author of Polling Matters— Why Leaders Must Listen to the Wisdom of the People (Warner Books, 2004), co-author with Stuart Rothenberg of The Evangelical Voter, co-editor of The Gallup Poll: Public Opinion 2004- 2014, and author of God Is Alive and Well: The Future of Religion in America (2012). Frank is the host of the new podcast Objective Religion. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Michigan.
