July 2021 Kestrel Update
A Successful Season!
With the kestrel season wrapping up, we are happy to report the following:
We had 14 nesting attempts in FoHVOS boxes. Although 4 of them failed, there were 10 successful boxes which is up one from last year. We had 46 banded chicks, plus 3 new adult females were captured and banded. Two females were recaptured adults. One was banded as a fledge in 2020 near Mechanicsville, Bucks County. The other was banded as a fledge in 2017.
Our kestrel program for 2021 was a success! We would like to say a big thank you to all our volunteers who checked their boxes throughout the spring and early summer. If anyone is interested in checking kestrel boxes in 2022, please email Land Steward Beth Craighead at bcraighead@fohvos.org.
